Strane storie fra i boschi del Cavadenti

C’è poco da ridere su quel nome “Cavadenti”. Non molti lo sanno ma con i suoi 855 metri il Cavadenti è il poggio più alto di tutto il complesso del Monte Lignano. Di lassù si domina la Val di Chiana con viste strepitose a perdita d’occhio. Non a caso i tedeschi, durante l’ultima guerra, da lì tenevano sotto tiro gli alleati in avanzata e per toglierli di mezzo dovettero mandarci truppe addestrate a combattere all’arma bianca.
Pare che fino a non molto tempo fa sulle pendici del poggio si trovassero ancora i resti di quegli scontri.
Il Cavadenti visto dal Fonte Partini
Altri resti, preistorici, etruschi, romani, e poi paleocristiani, medievali sino a quelli più recenti della conduzione mezzadrile sono sparsi lungo il pendio ormai solo boschivo che digrada giù fino a Vitiano Vecchio, fino alla strada romana oltre la quale iniziava l’insalubre palude poi bonificata. Ogni epoca ha insomma lasciato qui le sue tracce: urne cinerarie, toponimi, croci, torrioni e case poderali; solo resti però, solo ruderi e ricordi perché qui tutto è ormai morto, tutto abbandonato e solo i cinghiali, le vipere, i lupi abitano queste zone. E i fantasmi.
La Torre
Non sono solo i castelli scozzesi ad essere abitati da fantasmi; almeno un fantasma c’è anche qui, a “la Torre”, come si chiama oggi quello che fu l’antico Castello di Vitiano. La cinta muraria fu abbattuta e la torre sbassata di vari metri ma anche così il rudere, posto su un’altura all’inizio del sentiero che si arrampica verso il Cavadenti, ha conservato un aspetto minaccioso e sinistro. Fra il sei e il settecento il castellaccio fu abitato da un tipo stravagante, il conte Cosimo Serristori, piovuto qui, sa Iddio come, dai lungarni fiorentini.
Pare, ma sono solo voci, che il personaggio avesse strane abitudini e non disdegnasse di fruire, talvolta, dello jus primae noctis. In ogni caso, negli ultimi anni della sua vita, forse per fare ammenda, volle farsi prete e morendo lasciò le sue molte sostanze ai Padri Filippini di Castiglion Fiorentino. Ma non fu questo l’ultimo gesto di generosità di don Cosimo, l’ultimo lo compì molto tempo dopo, da fantasma.
Oltre mezzo secolo fa, in una casa annessa alla Torre viveva un certo Pergente, uomo povero di spirito e di mezzi. Un giorno, in una pausa di lavoro, cadde in uno strano stato fra il sonno e la veglia durante il quale parlava con un prete (già, un prete!) che solo lui vedeva. Alla scena assistevano alcuni compagni di lavoro che capirono dal colloquio che il prete insegnava a Pergente dove era sepolto un tesoro raccomandandogli però di non dire nulla a nessuno e di andare da solo a prenderselo, consiglio che, ohimé, Pergente non seguì. Il giorno dopo, insieme a un paio di amici, si recò nel luogo indicato dal prete, in vetta al Poggio Arcipressino, nelle vicinanze della Torre. Lì, dopo diversi colpi di piccone venne finalmente alla luce un lastrone di pietra messo a copertura di… qualcosa. Il lastrone era pesante e per sollevarlo si convenne di tornare il giorno dopo con un paranco. Il giorno dopo però, tornando, Pergente ebbe la stessa sorpresa dei guardiani del Santo Sepolcro al loro risveglio: il lastrone era divelto e il sepolcro vuoto, solo che il contenuto non era salito in cielo ma era rimasto in terra, finito nelle tasche di qualche furbastro.
Sul Poggio Arcipressino sono ancora oggi visibili i segni dello scavo e la storia di Pergente, di cui parlarono anche i giornali dell’epoca, qui la conoscono tutti. Meglio di tutti la conosce Beppino un (quasi) testimone della vicenda. Beppino è nato e vissuto sotto il Cavadenti e conosce palmo a palmo tutta la zona. Se capitate da queste parti andatelo a trovare; lui sta nella casa dove abitava Pergente, presso la Torre. È convinto che nei dintorni di tesori ce ne siano altri ma ai fantasmi dice di non credere e si è comprato un metal-detector. Andateci verso l’ora di pranzo; vi inviterà a mangiare con lui e vi cucinerà cose semplici e straordinarie. E dopo vi racconterà la storia di Pergente e cento altre storie; che anche a raccontare è bravissimo. Non andateci però di sera, non ci trovereste nessuno. All’imbrunire Beppino se ne va; torna a dormire giù al Fondaccio perché di passare la notte alla Torre, a lui, non gli va proprio.
